XPAND Resources
Inc. is an international Engineering Services company dedicated to
providing solutions to the engineering and manufacturing industries.
XPAND is wholly owned and solely operated by Professional Engineers
with an in-depth experience and knowledge of the industry.
Situation
XPAND was having difficulty coordinating efforts to review and
place candidates. Outlook email PST files containing
thousands of messages were manually copied between employee
computers to ensure everyone had a copy of all correspondence
with recruiters and job applicants. Thousands of resumes
were stored on one computer, which was then accessed by
employees via Windows built-in file sharing services.
XPAND wanted to eliminate the manual "synchronization" of
Outlook PST files, and to access their critical corporate data
securely from remote locations.
Solution
Systems Aligned implemented an IMAP email and
OpenGroupware.org server solution running on Red Hat Linux
9. Samba was deployed to give the Windows desktops
shared and private folders on the server. A new VPN
installation gave remote users secure access to the corporate
LAN.
An automated backup system completed the solution.
